Where will we be?
Your journey will mostly take place in the Okavango Delta area, which is located in Maun, Botswana. Situated just above South Africa, Botswana is considered a safe country as it is both financially and politically stable. Botswana has been called the Switzerland of Africa and Africa’s hidden gem. Here’s a video with more information.
Is it safe?
Africa Culture Journeys provides top quality equipment and facilities and we participate in regular safety inspections by tourism industry officials and authorities. Also, our staff is trained and certified by the Maun Wildlife training Institute.
Even though Botswana is considered one of the safest countries in Africa, please remain alert and take precautions to safeguard personal property at all times. We recommend leaving as many of your valuables (expensive watches, jewelry, electronics, etc) as possible at home. Keep laptops and cellphones in a secure place. Luggage locks are advisable when traveling in Africa.
How dangerous are the animals?
Your safety is always our top priority. Since we are mostly in the wilderness, there is potential for dangerous animals. But for the most part, these animals have become accustomed to tents, camps and vehicles and seem to appear at ease around them. Also:
The GOLDEN RULE in the wilderness is to respect animals and view them at a comfortable zone for them and the guests on board. All activities are led by well trained professional guides, who are conservationist at heart.
Most animals view us as one unity, as they cannot see us as individuals in the vehicle except for primates like baboons and monkeys.
We all have rules that the guides and guests on board have to adhere to whilst at a sighting like for example
No standing at a sighting
We minimize our voices at sightings
We don’t make sounds to draw the attention of the animal to the vehicle
We give animals space so that they can proceed with their normal life
Neutral colors so that we all blend in with the environment
No littering
What about dietary restrictions?
Because we operate in remote areas, please communicate all dietary requirements well in advance. At the latest, 14 days before the start of your trip. All properly communicated dietary requirements will be adhered to.
On your journey, you will have experienced chefs who can prepare delicious personalized meals.
How is the food prepared? And what type of food is it?
The food is prepared with a gas oven cylinder stove to give our guests high-end tasting food. We do have a set menu for the trip and our typical menu is as follows:
Breakfast: Assorted fresh fruit, cereals, yogurts, homemade toast, muffins, cooked breakfast to order, tea, coffee, and some juice.
Lunch: (picnic lunch) rice or pasta, green salad, chicken, homemade bread, assorted fruits and soft drinks.
Dinner: pumpkin basil soup, seswaa (pounded beef), sweetcorn, potatoes, green salad, glazed carrots.
As noted above, please communicate all dietary restrictions as soon as possible, at the latest 14 days before the start of your trip. If restrictions are communicated sooner than two weeks before your journey begins, we will do everything we can to accommodate but cannot promise we will be able to fulfill requests.
Communication
WIFI will be provided for guests while they are in Maun, and while they are in the bush, we have radio communication with our base office. For emergencies, we do have a satellite phone that our guests are more than welcome to use at an additional cost.
