Camp Staff

Do you enjoy adventure and building something special with a dynamic team? ACJ (Africa Culture Journeys) is currently seeking a responsible and trustworthy Operations Leader to join our team and assist our Operations Director. REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fluent in Setswana and English

  • Drivers Licence

  • Enthusiastic Team Player, passionate about the company’s mission

  • Passionate about Botswana and sharing Botswana’s history and culture

  • Preferred Education, but not a requirement: Guide Licence or any Basic Tourism training

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

OFFICE DUTIES

Cleaning and ensuring the tidiness of the office surroundings, including restroom (all staff participate)

Packing and ensuring the cleanliness of the storeroom

Assisting the mechanic with workshop duties

Reply to WhatsApp messages in timely manner

 

DRIVER DUTIES

Cleanliness of the vehicles in the camp and office, ensuring they're in proper working condition

Safely operating company vehicles according to the traffic laws of Botswana

Maintaining a valid Class B, PRDP Special license, PRDP Goods license

Performing pre-trip inspections of the company vehicle assigned to him or her

Reporting any maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel

Following designated routes in and around Maun and during company guest trips

Driver is prohibited from crossing deep water channels whilst in company vehicles

Loading and unloading the vehicle for pre, during, and post-trip

Ensuring the company's equipment is loaded and unloaded safely

Adhere to scheduled times for trips

Maintaining driver logs and paperwork according to company policy

Follow the radio procedures and etiquette when communicating on the radio

Keep all the invoices in order and share them with the admin for filing

Maintain contact (visually and verbally, radio) with other backup vehicles

CAMP DUTIES AND ROLES

Ensure the cleanliness of the campsite before and when departing the site

Engage guests and share stories about the history of Botswana

Setting up camp on time and ensuring the camp is ready when guests arrive

Greet guests upon arrival with fresh towels, with essence and warm water for hand basin, and welcome drinks for guests

Help guests with luggage from the vehicle to their rooms

Provide room orientation for guests

Always follow and abide by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks regulations at all times 

Break down camp as the guests depart camp when moving to the next campsite


Morning Duties

Wake up an hour before guests wakeup call and prepare for breakfast 

Ensure the fire is ready before guests arrive for breakfast

Wake up guests on time, pour fresh warm water in the canvas basin

Ensure the director chairs are secure and firm for guests

After breakfast, do scullery duties 

Do housekeeping for all the guests’ tents and ensure the tent frames, structures are firm and strong

Recharge all solar generators and do not turn on lights for guests in the evening to avoid bugs

Mid-day Duties

Help set up for lunch and help with service (carrying plates, set up table and plates and cutlery)

After lunch, do scullery

Assist chef with high tea and dinner preparation

Afternoon Duties

Clean and prepare guest tents

Pour drinking water in guest tent kettles 

Check and refill all guest amenities 

Have water ready for showers after afternoon game drives

Ensure director chairs are firm and secure around campfire

Evening Duties

Ensure front of house dinner table is ready before guests arrive

Assist guests with pre-dinner snacks 

Assist with dinner service

After dinner, pour water in canvas basins in front of tents

After dinner scullery

Pack up back of house equipment that is not in use and return it back to the vehicles

Pack the Main area garden chair cushions into the backup vehicle




Staff Appraisals

Participate in peer-to-peer staff appraisals and fully cooperate on Appraissals by the supervisor.


 Staff Meals

Enroute- Africa Culture Journeys will provide Breakfast and Lunch when staff are travelling. The staff will prepare their own dinner upon arrival


In-Camp- ACJ will provide basic meals for Breakfast, Lunch, Supper and concentrate beverage to be prepared by staff in Camp. The staff are to create a rota for back-of-house meal preparation; all staff members must participate.


Between Camp Meals- the team is to prepare a packed meal for the road, and must prioritize getting camp ready before preparing the next meal. 


Guest Beverages

Serve guests fresh food at all times

Vegetables must be stored and maintained in a fresh state

Meat must be frozen at all times

Guest beverages must be kept chilled and served at the right temperatures
